Pineapple Tours has been offering Kayak and Stand Up Paddle Board tours since 2006, in the area of Dominical, Costa Rica. They offer tours by Kayak or Stand Up Paddle Board to various locations like the Mangroves, Ventanas Caves, The Whale’s Tail Combo Tour at Marino Ballena National Park, Dominicalito Bay, the Rio Baru, and Las Islas Tres Hermanas. They are an “Empresa Declarada Certificada” by ICT (Instituto Costarricense de Turismo). They also have a full service Tour Information Center at their office in Dominical. It’s important to Pineapple Tours that their tours are educational and fun and their guides will go above and beyond to make sure their customers are comfortable, happy and enjoying themselves.
The owners, Manuel “Nego” Mora and Rachel Wyrostek, met in NYC in 2001 and tried living the fast-paced life there for 5 years. Then, in 2006, they realized this wasn’t the lifestyle they wanted and decided to move to Nego’s hometown of Dominical, Costa Rica.
They were silent partners in Nego’s brother’s surf shop, Pineapple Surf Shop (the original surf shop of Dominical), but they wanted something more to do. They had always loved nature and outdoor activities. Nego borrowed two kayaks from a friend and took Rachel to the Mangroves of Guapil/Hatillo. She had never seen anything like this place and wanted to know more. She immediately started studying about the mangrove ecosystem and its inhabitants. That’s when they got the idea to start doing kayak tours of the mangroves. Nobody had been doing them in the area, and it seemed like people should know about this amazing environment. On one ofthe first tours Rachel guided, the client told her that he had been all over the world, but the environment of the mangroves, mixed with her passion of the place, made that tour one of the most memorable tours of his life. Nego also remembered an old legendary friend, “Kayak Joe”, who would venture out to the Ventanas Caves by kayak with his friends. They decided to add Ventanas Caves to their menu as well. They bought some kayaks and in January of 2006, they became Pineapple Tours. And for a few years, it was just Rachel and Nego doing the guiding and showing people an amazing time at the Mangroves or Ventanas.
Throughout the years, there were more tours added, like the incredible Whale’s Tail Combo Tour at Marino Ballena National Park, which includes kayaking, snorkeling and a mangrove hike. Or the beautiful paddle on the majestic Rio Baru. And equipment was added as well.
They started offering Stand Up Paddle Boards in 2011 and have the capacity to take 10 people on paddle board and 20 people by kayak. The Pineapple Team started growing, with freelance guides and office employees. Right now, they have 4 awesome and super knowledgeable
freelance guides and one amazing office employee. As the years continued on, the office of Pineapple Tours branched out as a Tour Information Center. They pride themselves in knowing everything there is to do in the southern Pacific and
can help arrange a great trip for you.
