Hey mae! Give me a burger!
Carly and Eric Hara left behind a 15-hour daily routine and a hectic lifestyle in New York. Following their dream and traveling through many places, they came to Costa Rica to retire and spend more time with their children. They fell in love with Bahia Ballena, and in 2018 they bought a house in Uvita. Eric is a renowned chef. He and Carly worked in the gastronomic industry for more than a decade. Upon arriving here, they noticed the high demand for quality food at reasonable prices. So, their “retirement”; did not last more than six months. They found an ideal place for a quick, delicious, and affordable location. Looking for the perfect name, an international chain in the United States came to their mind, and given that the tico conversations always end with Mae they came up with Five Maes.
Five Maes exhibits an open kitchen where you can observe the preparation of your sandwich or hamburger and ask
for any complement you want. The vegetables are fresh and locally sourced, the meat is fluffy and crispy, by using brisket,
the tastiest part of the cow explains chef Eric.
Almost everything is made in house, and there is something for everyone, including vegan and
vegetarian options that are part of the extensive menu.
New to the menu are daily/weekly specials ranging from Chinese, to Greek and Mexican dishes so Eric can be creative!
The location of the restaurant could not be better: on the highway, near the entrance to the Marino Ballena National Park, next to a bus stop and with ample parking at the new Pacific Pool building.
